Singapore: Circle Line Stage 6: Constructing MRT Tunnels Beneath an Operational Viaduct

Singapore’s Circle Line Stage 6 project showcases a complex underground engineering challenge, with MRT tunnels constructed directly beneath the Keppel Viaduct while road traffic continued above. Engineers used advanced techniques, including foundation strengthening, micro-piles and trenchless construction methods, to safely deliver the new tunnels and minimise disruption. The final stage of the Circle Line will add three new stations and complete the loop between HarbourFront and Marina Bay.

ACCIONA has launched the final stage of excavation beneath Sydney Harbour, with TBM Patyegarang beginning its journey towards Waverton.
