The 111th Annual Conference of our association was held on June 10, 111th year (Friday) at the International Conference Hall, 20th floor of the Taiwan Railway Administration. Under the leadership of Chairman Mr. Li Shunmin, the annual conference was grandly inaugurated. This year, due to the impact of the pandemic, many participants switched to online participation, but the enthusiasm was still high. First of all, we were honored to have the presence of three distinguished guests: Chairman Lin Tingfang of the Geotechnical Technology Foundation, Chairman Wang Fengren of the National Union of Applied Geology Technicians, and Chairman Xie Qiman of the Chinese Geotechnical Materials Association.

In his speech, Chairman Lin Tingfang of the Geotechnical Technology Foundation mentioned that tunnel/civil engineering should focus on the accumulation and inheritance of experience. In addition to actively opening up project visits and strengthening two-way communication, the foundation is currently promoting general education courses in universities, hoping to attract more professionals to participate in national construction. In response to the global trend of ESG, tunnel/civil engineering should transform into green engineering to create a sustainable future, including the use of green construction methods and materials in new tunnels to reduce environmental impact, and the emphasis on regular maintenance and periodic inspections of existing tunnels to ensure sustainable operation. Chairman Lin expressed his hope that the engineering community will continue to strive towards the transmission of experience, green engineering, and other directions, and he wished all the distinguished guests good health and every success, and a successful conference.
